The Beaver And Raccoon

In this unit of stories, we have been talking about fables. In class, we have been talking about Aesop fable and Panchatantra fables. While reading these two different types of fables we were looking at the characteristics of the fables; such as personification, symbolism, and character development. We were discussing what exactly makes up a story, how do you develop a character, and how can we use a story to teach a lesson. For the action project, for this unit, we had to create our own fable. Over this unit, I have learned about the importance of them and how different they can be depending on where they come from and cultural traditions some people have that incorporate that into the fables.  I decided to make my fable about working hard and not letting anything get in the way the reason I chose this value is because I believe that if someone works hard enough they are capable of anything.

The Beaver And The Raccoon

One day in the woods of Oregon, Benny the Beaver was strolling along. Benny had a very nice brown coat and a great large tail for work. Benny was a very neighborly beaver. When he went around the beautiful and calm woods he lived in, he would always say to “Hello” to the other fellow woodland creatures. Although Benny the Beaver was a very friendly beaver, he also took his responsibilities very seriously. Whenever he had a task to do, he always made it his top priority.

One day when it was chilly outside, Benny the Beaver was working on his dam. This dam meant a lot to Benny; he knew it was his top responsibility, and he was very committed to his task. This dam wasn’t just meant for him. It was also meant for the other animals in the woods, too. With the dam it would be able to keep the animals in the woods safe. Many animals, including his close friends, decided to go up to Benny and say “Hello”. Robby the Raccoon was the first to go up to him, “Hello Benny. How are you today on this lovely morning?” Benny replied quickly “Hi.” Robby was very confused. He was one of the closest friends of Benny who didn’t seem to care of what he had to say. Robby decided to give it another try and asked: “So what are you up to?” Benny again replied and said, “I am working on my dam. I am sorry for being busy, but once I am done, we can talk.” Robby was again very confused he wondered, “Why did he need to work on his dam? Why be so busy?”

When Robby the Raccoon went home he thought to himself: “It shouldn’t take too long for him to build his dam.” So Robby decided to go check on him after about ten minutes. When he got there, it seemed like Benny barely started. Robby noticed that when other animals went up to Benny the same thing happened to them like what had happened to Robby. Benny wasn’t a very fast working beaver, but he was very much dedicated and he liked to take his time. Benny was making his dam on his own and really wanted to complete it. Benny noticed Robby sitting alone and felt bad, but knew he had to finish his dam.

Robby was very impatient and didn’t like how Benny just ignored him the whole day. Robby didn’t like it one bit. Now, he didn’t have anyone to hang out with. Robby went to where Benny was building his dam and decided to taunt and tease him. He would go back and forth and made sure Benny saw, he would say: “Hey Benny! Come to join us it will be fun!” Of course, Benny acknowledged Robby and really wanted to join him but didn’t. Benny was super disappointed. At this point, Robby was tired of going back and forth trying to persuade Benny. This was the last time Robby was going to go to Benny to get him to hang out with him.

Robby was walking alone with his head hanging low and shouted “Benny! Come on stop being a buzzkill man!” Benny thought to himself and agreed with Robby. He replied “Okay. I’m not done with my dam yet, but I am sure nothing will happen, so it will be fine.” Benny quickly raced towards Robby. They started playing as they would usually do. About thirty minutes passed and their play time was unexpectedly longer than they thought. When Benny got to the dam. Benny and Robby were in shock. Benny’s dam was destroyed; it was completely gone. They both thought: “The water must have taken it”. They were both absolutely right about the water. The rush and pressure of the water took the dam along with trees. Since, the dam was destroyed now the water has spread into the woods. Benny was so devastated not only did his dam get destroyed but also some trees. Benny faced the consequences. From now on Benny learned to make sure he was going to be patient, work even harder, and not let anything get in his way next time.
