For our last unit we are focusing on birth. In class we have been talking about the different components food has and what it's made of. We also watched a documentary called "Food inc." The reason why we decided to watch the documentary because we wanted to see how our food is actually handled with. I can say this opened our eyes and we were able to see how farmer, animals, and food is treated. In this unit we have been talking about GMOs and how they effect us. Not many people notice that GMOs are everywhere. In class we watch a video about the "Green Revolution" which is basically about using modern science to grow our food supply. We also talked about supply and demand and how when making the food we usually will grow more of one thing such as corn or soybeans. For our AP in this unit we have to decide if we are either anti-GMOs or pro-GMOs. To help decide we went to a Farmer's Market and were able to see different perspectives about the pros . and cons about GMOs. It was a very great experience being able to speak to different people.

In this unit of Food For Thought we were discussing death and how food surplus effects it in many ways. In class, we have been talking about issues/conflict that had happened in history that has been caused by the food we also looked at an article about the Irish potato famine. We also defined what monoculture and polyculture are and how they might affect the agricultural world especially when you have a low food supply. For this AP we were assigned to pick a topic that food surplus effects. In this unit we were focusing on cooking and different ways we are able to interpret the nutrients and food labels when it comes to cooking. In this unit we also went to a farm called Patch Work Farms and got to see how crops and herbs grow and the process they have to go to through. For this unit in the AP we decided to make different kinds of bread such as yeast, commercial, sourdough, etc. We focused on the leavening agents and how they might affect the bread and what they do to benefit the dough. We also looked at the ingredients and the nutrition labels for the recipe. Through this experience I noticed that there are many things we don't acknowledge when we are cooking such as the fats, sodium, and the calories. SR.Yeast.2018

Throughout this unit we were able to learn the origin of foods but at the same time we were able to learn our families food origins. Through this process we were also able to speak to family members to get an insider perspective of how they interpret their traditional foods. The purpose of this Action Project is to not only explore the process of foods but to also explore your own personal process of special family foods that signify your family and culture. SR.FamilyTree.2018 Overall this unit was very important we were able to see other traditions but also ours and the meaning of our food that important to our family. I enjoyed this AP because I feel like it got me closer to culture and family talking about different dishes and different foods that are important and meaningful to us and relatives.

Throughout this term we were studying natural farming and the techniques that we should use. By doing this we read “One Straw Revolution” by Fukuoka. When reading this book we were discussing the principles and the reason behind Fukuoka’s theory. The this AP we are pretending to have a garden and how we would sort the plants out for their health and growth we also leaned onto Fukuoka's theory for inspiration!                                                 Overall this AP was very useful for us and the environment. We are now able to better ourselves when it comes to gardening and the purpose of gardening too. I believe that the most interesting part of this unit is learning about how plants interact with others. I really enjoyed this AP because we were able to show what we learned in our own preference.
