Welcome to the final Action project of my senior STEAM class, Social Entrepreneurship. For this unit, we dove in deeper on how we are able to grow our business. For example, marketing strategies, focusing on our targeted audience, how to reach customers, legal structure, etc. For this unit's field experience guest, we welcomed Matt Nicklin into our classroom. Mr. Nicklin is from First Analysis and spoke to us about investments and gave us advice when starting out a business. It was a super interesting and intriguing experience! For this action project, we were assigned the task to create our own business plan and to come up with a social business! Before taking this class, I have had experience with starting my own business so I was super excited to implement my new business into the picture. I decided to take the opportunity to design and sell clothing, surrounding the Christian faith! You can read all more about exactly what is brand of mine is about down below. Overall, this was such an encouraging action project! I have had this business idea in mind for almost a year now, and I believe this class gave me the privilege to really bring it to life! It got me critically thinking about Refined Apparel and what my mission and vision really look like for this brand. This class prepares me for university this upcoming fall and also pushes me to engage in more of this passion of mine! I really enjoyed how we were motivated to think about what social good means and how we can assist our community with the things and businesses we create. I am super content that I was able to implement this personal and important part of my life in this action project. I am looking forward to our next course and, hopefully, taking this business plan many steps forward!

In this unit of stories, we have been talking about fables. In class, we have been talking about Aesop fable and Panchatantra fables. While reading these two different types of fables we were looking at the characteristics of the fables; such as personification, symbolism, and character development. We were discussing what exactly makes up a story, how do you develop a character, and how can we use a story to teach a lesson. For the action project, for this unit, we had to create our own fable. Over this unit, I have learned about the importance of them and how different they can be depending on where they come from and cultural traditions some people have that incorporate that into the fables.  I decided to make my fable about working hard and not letting anything get in the way the reason I chose this value is because I believe that if someone works hard enough they are capable of anything.  Welcome to my last independent study action project, here at GCE. This action project, it is a continuation of my last independent study from the last term , so go check that out for more background information. For this unit, I wanted to focus on actually creating and finalizing the designs as well as print out the merchandise. This independent study meant a lot to me because I actually brought what I was creating to life! I was finally able to see what Refined Apparel started to look like in person. Through this experience, it was new but a lot of fun. I had the opportunity to learn how to make clothing while on a time crunch. Even though this was a challenge, I'm excited to continue and launch the shop this summer. I didn't have this opportunity if it wasn't for GCE. Diddley Bowie

This is my Action Project for my class called, Light, Sound, and Time. In this class, we conducted a lot of activities to understand the connection between the three elements: Light, Sound, and Time. For this unit, we only focused on sound and how it travels to our ears along with, speed, pitch, wavelength, frequency, etc. For this unit, we had a field experience to The Chicago Hearing Society where we were able to speak to people who have trouble hearing or can't hear at all and use what we learned in our first class, empathy. It was an interesting way to get a different perspective on sound and how it affects someone's life. So for this action project, we put all the elements that we have learned throughout this unit and make a diddley bow. Similarly, to the pinhole cameras, we made to study light. For this action project, I found it super fun and also challenging at the same time. It was my first time making a diddley bow, which looks simple but also hard to make.
